Write a 200 word response to the following post.In my first study, interviews and observations of the targeted group were not conducted in the collection of data. I believe the researcher chose to avoid these methods is because the study was conducted over a four- year period of time with more than 11,000 students and 79 elementary school. It would be very difficult to sit in the targeted grade level classrooms of grades kindergarten, first, second, third and fourth grade to interview each student and teacher as the students were promoted to the grade level each year. The potential gap with these omissions created an unclear picture of the effects of teacher instruction to the achievement outcome of the students. The researcher identified the gap of not having the necessary data that would possibly provide information about instructional processes and interaction between students and teachers to show teacher effectiveness in minority students.This information informs my dissertation study by researching why minority students are not being effected by highly-qualified teachers or differential teaching to close the achievement gap.The second study did not use variables or levelled hierarchical linear models to compute effectiveness in the classroom. This method was avoided because I believe the researchers used collaboration, observations, interviews, school publications and student achievement data along with teacher lesson plans to gain a better understanding and insight of teacher effectiveness instead of assigning a number to gender, teacher and data that would result in missing elements of being able to answer the questions how and why are the minority students being effected by teacher instruction. The omission of using the variable tool did not create a gap. The gap identified by the researcher is that minority academic talent will be recognized and developed through schools that operate from a strengths perspective rather than a deficit view of cultural difference and poverty.This information informs my dissertation study that a gap in the minority students academic achievement may be due to the view the educational system or district has of its students.
