Her son had reported tothe police that he noticed that there were bruises on her arms and her torso(Laureate Education, 2012). He also noticed changes in her behavior and then hedecided to remove her from that nursing home (Laureate Education, 2012). One program that is offered here in Virginia, for this typeof victim is Adult Protective Services (APS) (Adult Protective Services (APS),2016). If these protective services are needed and are accepted by the adult, alocal APS worker may arrange for health, housing, social, and legal servicesfor the adult (APS, 2016). This is supposed to stop the mistreatment and toprevent further mistreatment of the victim (APS, 20156). Other services thatare offered through APS are home-based health care, transportation, nutritionservices, and legal services (APS, 2016). Another program is the VirginiaCoalition for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, Inc. (VCPEA). The VCPEA helpsencourage the development of services and programs to protect the elderly withdisabilities who are abused or neglected (Virginia Coalition for the Preventionof Elder Abuse, Inc. (VCPEA), 2016). They also promote the improvement of qualityof services to vulnerable adults and they also promote a greater publicunderstanding and awareness of elder abuse (VCPEA, 2016). I think these programs are adequate. They help the elderlytry and cope with what has happened. They help the elderly get back on theirfeet after this type of incident happens. Also, providing legal services sothat the elderly won’t have to worry about anything, so they can try and go onwith their lives. A service that I think should be available would besomething to help the victims get compensated for what they have been through.When a person is in a nursing home they are paying for the services there. Theydidn’t ask to be abused and they should get reimbursed for everything that theyhad paid in during their entire stay there and maybe more.
