It could also include possessionof a mobile phone or any other electronic device, where an invigilator hadinstructed that such articles were to be deposited in a specified place. 2 The use of direct quotations orlightly paraphrased text without citing the source would be deemed to be anassessment offence. Where work wassimilarly presented, without quotation marks, but with a clear indication ofthe source this would be identified as bad practice and markedaccordingly. (In the latter case,overly-derivative work showing little intellectual input from the student wouldbe likely to be given a low mark, and if extensive the work would be almostcertain to fail). Offences can alsoinclude the use of intellectual data or ideas without acknowledgement; copying,summarising or paraphrasing the work of another student or graduate; commissioning another person to complete workwhich is then submitted as a student’s own work; the use of professional essaywriting services or work drawn down from the Internet.
