Historical Paper Assignment
This is a descriptive assignment where you will write an essay about a historic site in the New York City area that has political relevance. You are encouraged to check with the professor to make certain the historical site you have chosen is suitable for this project.
The Following Questions Need to be Answered in Your Assignment
(1) Why is the site important to American politics? Describe the significance of the event and site to American politics.
(2) Who? List and describe the significant participants at the historical site.
(3) When? When did the event happen? Or in what time period did the event happen?
(4) What happened? Describe the sequence of events that occurred at the historical site. (5) What is there now? Describe the current neighborhood of the site. Briefly describe the major changes and developments in this neighborhood from the time of the event to present day.
Organizational Requirements:
1. Provide a clear thesis statement. Your thesis statement should answer the first prompt questions: why is the site you have chosen important in American politics? 2. Spend a paragraph at the beginning introducing the structure of the paper. 3. The paper should be typed, double-spaced, use 12-point Font, use 1-inch margins, and be approximately 4 to 5 pages in length. 4. Page numbers should be centered at the bottom of each page. 5. Use one staple in the upper left corner of your paper. 6. Proper citations and references must be used following the American Political Science Association Style Manual 7. Provide a bibliography at the end of the paper and use in-text citations throughout the paper.
Research Requirements:
Locate at least three scholarly studies on the subject outside of required course readings. They must be academic books, scholarly journals (as opposed to newspapers or news magazines), and/or academic reports. Suggested databases for locating academic sources JSTOR; Lexis Nexis Academic; HeinOnline; and Project Muse. One more thing I wanna mention is that you must use three scholarly studies outside sources.
